Dream home in the Kent countryside

At MJ Rooney Construction, we build more than just structures, we deliver complete homes, inside and out. Our recent project in Kent, proudly featured on our project page, exemplifies this philosophy. With the structural works completed and the client now enjoying their new home, we’re taking a moment to focus on what really sets this build apart: the finishes.

From the outset, the vision was clear, this project was all about striking the balance between creating something that was timeless but worked for real living. Working closely with a trusted team of suppliers and craftspeople, we’ve delivered a home that not only looks great but works hard behind the scenes.

Statement Staircases

One of the standout internal features is the bespoke staircase designed and crafted by K&D Joinery. Spanning from basement to second floor, this engineered redwood structure seamlessly merges into the poured concrete base below, a complex task requiring millimetre accuracy. Low-level lighting integrated into the stringer, custom newel posts, and minimalist balustrades complete a feature that’s both functional and sculptural.

Flooring that elevates every space

Floors were a critical part of the overall aesthetic and functionality of this home. The client wanted more than standard patterns, they needed something distinctive, well-proportioned, and elegant. After extensive supplier research, they chose WFA (Wooden Flooring & Accessories) for their unmatched ability to customise both size and finish.

We worked with WFA to deliver large-format Chevron oak flooring throughout the ground floor, providing a clean and cohesive look that feels open without being stark. The chevrons were custom manufactured to suit the proportions of each room, precision work that elevates the entire home.

Downstairs, the basement gym required a completely different performance spec. To provide the right feel underfoot, WFA supplied a spring underlay system paired with wide oak planks, giving the space both visual warmth and functional bounce. The result is a floor that looks high-end and feels tailored to its purpose.
